City Architecture Office

City Architecture Office is described as one of the best new practices in Scotland by Building Design magazine. We work from our purpose-designed studio in central Edinburgh and our Islington-based London office.

Moray Royles started the practice in 1998, following experience with Bennetts Associates and Malcolm Fraser Architects. He incorporated the company in 2002. In 2007 Alun Hughes joined the company as a Director, bringing considerable experience in infrastructure projects. Previously an Associate Director at Hawkins/Brown and a project Architect for Jestico+Whiles, he has lead the design of a number of major transport projects.

City Architecture Office has gained commissions in a variety of sectors public, commercial, transport, leisure and residential architecture with appropriate responses specific to the demands of brief & site.

Our clients include Parsons Brinckerhoff, Kelty Development Trust, Out of the Blue Arts & Education Trust, Mull Theatre. Our studio is organised to deliver high quality work. This means our resources are project focused and we are therefore familiar with handling varying budgets to create innovative design solutions.

This growing experience strengthens our view that good design adds value well beyond the cost of professional fees and has helped to establish the practice’s creative abilities in architecture & urban design.

City Architecture Office operates an ISO9001 approved quality management system and ISO14001 approval is being sought. The practice has attained approved supplier status for Achilles-Link Up (since August 2008) and Constructionline (from December 2008).
