Drumfin Housing, Tobermory

Project Value: £2m
Client : West Key Properties Ltd
Design Stage : A - L
2008 - ongoing

City Architecture Office completed a feasibility study and are progressing a detailed planning submission for this residential development in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

It is a small scale exemplar sustainable development of five large family and affordable houses. The 1 hectare site affords panoramic views across the Sound of Mull.

The development is to have a contemporary highland feel and marry with the Drumfin theatre development into an implied master plan for the south Aros Park area.

The alignment of structures run parallel with the existing contours of the site enabling the buildings to sit comfortably in their surroundings. Houses are positioned close to the access road and create a rural clustered character, revealing a series of courtyards & gables throughout the development.

The orientation of each dwelling creates a postive micro-climate: wind shelter, noise buffer, natural light and solar gain to habitable rooms, with ample opportunity for roof mounted renewable technologies.
